Summer Reading!!

May 5, 2020

We missed our annual visit from a wonderful public librarian but the Monroe County Public Library is still having a summer reading program.
Check the Monroe County Public Library's website for information about how to play this year's summer reading game - starting June 1.
 mcpl.info/summerreading

There will be a game for Children, Teens, and Adults that encourages participants to read for fun, try different activities, earn points and prizes - and give back to our community, too!

Suggested Summer Reading Lists from the school librarians. Check them out! You might see something that looks like you might enjoy.

April 29, 2020

Did you see that J. Paul Getty Museum created an online challenge to recreate a piece of art at home?

Here are a few examples:

Let's have our own challenge but with books and characters!
I challenge you to recreate a scene from your favorite book, or dress up and pose as your favorite character. It can be a picture book or a chapter book.

This is my friend, Ms. Hamilton, librarian extraordinaire, from Binford Elementary:

Take a picture and bring it to school in August. We will post the pictures on the bulletin board outside the library so we will be able to guess your book title or character. You may also email your picture to me, just one per student, please.

Dragon Loves Tacos

April 28, 2020

Most of you know I am so proud of my nephew, Anthony, and he is graduating from Notre Dame soon with a masters in Global Health. Very soon. Besides studying hard for all of his classes, he also runs cross country and track for Notre Dame. Next year he will begin Medical School.

This is him running in a National Championship for Cross Country in which his team did well! Yay!

Notre Dame invited athletes from all sports to join in supporting Feeding America by reading books aloud for children to enjoy. Feeding America helps provide food to families who are in need. A great example of an act of Kindness

Coronavirus Information

April 24, 2020

Happy Friday!

Two great e-books have caught my eye. These two ebooks are fantastic and provide so much great information about the Coronavirus and what we can do to stay healthy.

I am sure that in time each of the ebooks will be made into paper books, but it takes time to publish paper books. I will be on the look out for them!

Earth Day/Week

April 22, 2020

Happy Earth Day!

The first Earth Day was on April 22, 1970. Americans wanted to become smarter about the environment and begin a new way to go forward for our planet.

So much great information on one of my favorite websites, Wonderopolis. You can scroll through the daily wonders or do a search for something in particular. This post is about Earth Day. You can even have it read to you if you choose "Listen".
 Wonderopolis

My Friend Earth, by Patricia MacLachlan and illustrated by Francesca Sanna, is a beautiful book about our earth. And it has cut-outs and flappy things which you know I love.

 My Friend Earth
I started working in my flower gardens and I looked for worms in the dirt, because I know how good they are for my plants I didn't see any and I wondered why which took me back to Wonderopolis. I did a search for worms and I learned so much. Click below to discover why I didn't find any worms.

 Wonderopolis

Listen to this great story written and illustrated by Tina Kugler about two great friends:

 Snail & Worm All Day

Homes in the Wild: Where Baby Animals and Their Parents Live, written and illustrated by Lita Judge, is a nonfiction book. You are going to be amazed at what these animals build. As you know the reader doesn't always have to read a nonfiction from beginning to end. I chose some of my favorite pages to share.
 Homes in the Wild

Kate Messner is one of my favorite authors. She writes a nonfiction series. These are two of the titles in the series.

My read aloud:
 Up in the Garden

These fun activities are from Jarrett Lerner's webpage.
 Of course bugs!!!
